Welcome to SOC110/Survey
of Sociology. Online courses require a high degree of self-motivation and time management. Here are a few tips that may help make this
course a pleasant learning experience:
1) Read the assignment requirements carefully and frequently. Click on the icons
(buttons, links) on the horizontal and vertical navigation bars. Pose questions in the
"Discussion Board" for clarification.
2) Follow the instructions
literally. For example, when you e-mail your assignment the "Subject"
field must begin with SOC110, your last
name and first name, and followed by the type of assignment (e.g. SOC110- Saporta, Sol- Self Evaluation) Otherwise
your e-mail will not be routed
properly, hence it will not be graded.
3) Submit your assignments via e-mail. Use the required format & headings (see Writing Templates). Your assignment will be graded and e-mailed back to you within a few days.
Save the sent and graded copies of your e-mail. In case of a dispute over whether
you submitted an assignment or not, the sent and the graded copies
are your proof. The sent copy is the computer generated file of your sent
e-mail.
4) Please keep a record of your progress and check the
"Grade
Book." For due dates, check the Grades button on
the horizontal navigation bar above.
5) Late assignments will not be accepted unless 1) prior arrangements are made with
the instructor or 2) exceptional
circumstances (i.e. emergencies) can be verified by an appropriate third party.
6) Throughout the quarter, I will post "Announcements" which will
appear once when you access the system. You may access all the announcements
through the "Announcement" icon.
7) World Wide Web: Please note that some links may become outdated as a natural
course of events, such as changing servers or domain names. Please e-mail me
noting which links had problems.
Finally, I hope that you will find this course both rewarding and useful.
Thanks.
